Deck 6 – Engineering
A bit more progress has been made with Deck 6, mainly in Engineering. Fortunately, that is one of two rooms on the ship that we actually saw in the show. I’m trying to make it as close to the show as possible for this version. The only changes I’m making is replacing the alien quantum slipstream core with a slipstream/warpcore of a more Federation design. Actually, I kept the core from the original map Ryan made, partially as a tribute, partially because I’ve alway liked the design and partially because it was already available. I only had to shrink it a bit to fit it in the new space. I’m also taking some creative freedom with the entrance area, since that was a bit bland and also not that clearly seen on the show or any of the diagrams I have.
Below is a comparison shot between the show and my map (I tweaked the Field of View a bit to get the shots to align more or less). As you can see, the map is a bit brighter then the show shot, though in-game, Engineering is still quite dark compared to other areas of the ship and other maps in general. I’m quite happy with the results so far. The only thing left is finishing the wall console near the entrance, apply some detail textures to the consoles in the back and re-do the LCARS as at the moment those are still from the old map.
So far I’ve not posted a lot of full-hd screen captures. So I’ve added a few, again of Engineering, for your viewing pleasure. There is Engineering seen from the back and front in wide-angle view, and one of just outside Engineering. As I mentioned, I expressed my creativity on the Engineering blast door (although the veteran RPG-X player might recognize the design of the door from a different map, lets see if you can figure out which one). I hope you like it!
Birds Eye View
You’ve already seen the GTK Radient Top View of Deck 1 in my previous post. Well, as promised here is another Top View, the one from Deck 6. I promised you I would do these regularly (untill I run out of decks), but I never promised I would do them in Deck-descending order! Enjoy.
